Italian Sun in Pompeii, Sorrento, and Capri
Posted on August 5, 2009 at 12:01am Madrid / 6:01pm Cincinnati by Kelly Larbes
As the train doors opened we grabbed our luggage and pushed our way forward along with dozens of other tourists and locals. Like most transportation in Italy, the train to Pompeii was standing room only, and you were bound to get to know your neighbor, whether in a conversation or just their body smell. Jay and I quickly stood our ground in a small corner near the entrance and watched [...]

Exploring History in Rome, Italy
Posted on July 31, 2009 at 10:37pm Madrid / 4:37pm Cincinnati by Jay Larbes
As usual, we're behind on our blog posts. We have so many stories we want to share, but these things take time, and we always seem to keep ourselves quite busy with little downtime. So, sorry for our usual lateness, but don't expect any huge changes. If you're living and dieing by our updates (crazy person), then follow us on Twitter at @PondJumpers - we do a much better job of staying up to date there! [...]

Visiting Bol and Zlatni Rat on the island of Brac
Posted on July 1, 2009 at 10:35pm Madrid / 4:35pm Cincinnati by Jay Larbes
On Kelly's parents' last day visiting us in Croatia, we decided to take a ferryboat back to the island of Brac. Kelly and I have visited Brac one other time and really enjoyed it, so we wanted to return to see more of the island. Last time, we only traveled by foot from the town of Supetar, so we didn't get to explore the other side of the island, where there is the town of Brac and the famous Zlatni Rat [...]

The waterfalls of Krka and Plitvice Lakes National Parks
Posted on June 28, 2009 at 6:34pm Madrid / 12:34pm Cincinnati by Kelly Larbes
I honestly never knew natural water could be these colors: so blue, turquoise, and teal. And it is also so clear; I can see the duck's feet swimming! Usually, I'd be happy to hike an hour just to see one waterfall, and here I see a new one around every corner. I start to think about the most beautiful places I've ever seen [...]

Visiting Supetar, Mirca and Sutivan on the Island of Brac
Posted on May 31, 2009 at 1:51pm Madrid / 7:51am Cincinnati by Jay Larbes
A couple of weeks ago, Kelly and I made our first excursion outside of Split - we took a weekend vacation (two days, one night) to the Croatian island of Brac. Croatia has hundreds of islands along its western coastline. Many of these islands are very small and uninhabited, but there are also some large islands with [...]

Finally making it to Split, Croatia
Posted on April 19, 2009 at 1:12am Madrid / 7:12pm Cincinnati by Kelly Larbes
It's been sunny, blue skies, and about 70F everyday for the past 10 days. No one in Split owns dryers and clothes are hung out on the balconies to dry in the fresh Adriatic air. We did our first load of laundry today. It's been raining all afternoon. Of course, laundry day was ruined before the rain; Jay accidently bought fabric softener instead of laundry detergent and all of the stores are closed today [...]
