Croatia’s Museum Night
Posted on February 7, 2010 at 3:48pm Madrid / 9:48am Cincinnati by Kelly Larbes
We started out the evening at the museum in Split's old city hall. It was all about the history of Split (with a lot of old photos and a lot to read) and seemed like the perfect exhibit to start off Croatia's 'NOC MUZEJA' or Museum Night. The exhibit covered everything from historical preservation to installing wayfinding signage in the city to the rebuilding of the Riva. We found the photos and information [...]

Our new apartment
Posted on January 29, 2010 at 2:19am Madrid / 8:19pm Cincinnati by Kelly Larbes
Last weekend we left our beach house for the city. We decided it was time for a new apartment closer to town, so we moved to Varoš, an old suburb of Split known for its small and narrow winding streets just outside the city walls. The move was bittersweet. Why we moved: The main reason we moved was to be closer to town. There was a lot we loved about our old place [...]

New Year’s Weekend: Split, Ljubljana, and Zagreb
Posted on January 9, 2010 at 2:14am Madrid / 8:14pm Cincinnati by Kelly Larbes
A light rain fell on and off all weekend, and some weekends we would've just hibernated, but last weekend we were out and about every day. We definitely didn't let the rain dampen our New Year's weekend. Luckily it was never a hard blowing rain, so an umbrella kept us dry for the most part. [...]

Christmas Eve we got dressed up, went into town, had lunch with our friend, Paula, and walked around enjoying the decorations and carolers. We came upon a group of guys singing Silent Night (in Croatian) a cappella. They had beautiful voices and the small alleyway seemed to magnify their voices. [...]

Egypt Diary: Sharm El Sheikh and Petra
Posted on December 24, 2009 at 2:01am Madrid / 8:01pm Cincinnati by Kelly Larbes
Wednesday, November 25: For me, the snorkeling is the best thing about Sharm El Sheikh and Naama Bay. Hundreds of colorful fish swam around us yet somehow none of them ever touched us. Only one other time in my life (in the Caribbean) have I swam with so many different and colorful fish. Most places you need to take a boat to arrive at great snorkeling, but there was a reef only about 50 yards [...]

Egypt Diary: Luxor and beyond (and a hot air balloon ride)
Posted on December 17, 2009 at 11:41pm Madrid / 5:41pm Cincinnati by Kelly Larbes
Sunday, November 22: This morning we arrived in Luxor. Luxor is home to the Valley of Kings and Queens and it is full of temples and tombs. Today we visited Karnak and Luxor Temples. Honestly, all of the temples are starting to run together in my head. They feel kind of like churches in Europe; most of them are beautiful [...]
